F1 - A “Crash" Course in Motorsports Medicine Webinar

This dynamic lecture introduces EMS providers to the high-performance world of medical coverage in Formula 1 racing, where precision, speed, and teamwork are as critical for medical crews as they are for the drivers. Participants will gain an inside look at the structure, responsibilities, and rapid response expectations of medical teams operating in one of the most demanding and safety driven sporting environments in the world.

The session explores the unique medical challenges presented by F1, including high-velocity trauma, fire hazards, complex extrications, and the physiologic stresses experienced by drivers. Providers will learn about the coordination between the FIA Medical Team, trackside response units, extrication specialists, and local EMS resources, as well as the communication methods and safety protocols that support seamless incident management during races.

Through case studies and real incident breakdowns, attendees will examine the split-second clinical decision-making required in motorsport medicine and the specialized equipment used in the field—such as extrication tools designed for carbon fiber cockpits, fire resistant PPE, and in race medical chase cars. The lecture also highlights risk reduction strategies, pre-event planning, and interagency collaboration essential for delivering elite level medical readiness.

This session is ideal for EMS providers seeking to deepen their understanding of high-risk event medicine, tactical scene operations, and the unique demands of supporting worldclass motorsport competition
