This class will cover the anatomy and physiology of the structures involved in sugar metabolism. We will also discuss the various medications used to treat diabetes. We will cover the various types of diabetes to include insipidus and gestational.
Target Audience
This course is designed for those providers currently working under the medical license of Dr. James Kempema.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this class, the student will be able to:
1.•Describe the functions of the pancreas and the relation to blood sugar regulation
2. •Describe Diabetes Mellitus and the Pathology that are used to diagnose the disease.
3. •List the complications associated with Diabetes Mellitus
4.•Describe the two types of Diabetes Mellitus
5.•Differentiate between the different types of insulin
6. •Differentiate between the different types of oral antihyperglycemic medications
7. •Describe the two types of common insulin pumps and how they function
8. •Define DKA and describe the signs and symptoms often associated with this condition
9. •Define HHS and describe the signs and symptoms often associated with this condition and how they differ from DKA
