PTSD for WDCFD
In this powerful and personal presentation, Scott shares his journey through PTSD, addiction, and a suicide attempt. Drawing from real life experiences, he speaks directly to first responders in a language they understand. Honest, relatable, and impactful. His message emphasizes the importance of recognizing signs and symptoms of mental health struggles not only in themselves, but also in their families, coworkers, and community.
Too often, first responders leave the careers they love due to the toll the job takes on their mental health. Scott challenges the notion that PTSD is a life sentence and offers hope through the concept of Post Traumatic Success. With the right support and coping tools, responders can emerge stronger, more resilient, and better equipped to process critical incidents without carrying the weight long-term.
Scott has helped others “see in color again” by guiding them toward recovery and resilience. He discusses risk factors, prevention strategies, and how education and open dialogue can help retain and support personnel. In a time when recruitment and retention are increasingly difficult, making mental health a safe topic is more critical than ever.
Since 2014, Scott has courageously shared his story, breaking the stigma and opening the door for others to seek help.
