Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

1. Explain how medication mechanisms, routes, and onset of action influence treatment effects and reassessment timing. 

2. Identify common medication administration hazards, including concentration errors, contraindications, and high-risk drug interactions. 

3. Interpret a patient’s home medication list to identify possible underlying conditions and anticipate altered vital signs or treatment responses. 

4. Perform a systematic medication history that includes recent prescription changes, nonprescription products, injections, and patches. 

5. Select measurable treatment endpoints and appropriate reassessment strategies for common prehospital medication interventions. 

6. Apply medication safety principles to patient scenarios, using local protocols and scope of practice to guide treatment and communicate medication-related risks during handoff.
